Want to feel like the best version of you more consistently?? Create your life around habits that make you feel like a superhero!
A large proportion of our daily activity is controlled by our subconscious mind, which is responding as the cumulative result of years of reactions, impulses, and experiences. It seems we are on autopilot most of the time, spending but a fraction consciously thinking about our next move. Our subconscious mind has a stock of pre-prepared actions/habits for every situation, and resists performing any new actions/habits (this saves the brain a lot of precious resources)! This is why so many of us are doing things that we don’t necessarily want to do e.g. drinking too much, eating too much junk food, not exercising, watching enormous amounts of television etc…
But…..you can change this with a little patience and some awareness!
So let me assume for that by you reading this post you are excited about being the most awesome version of yourself. Knowing that your current daily actions are a collection of pre-prepared habits initiated by your subconscious mind, you can now interrupt the cycle by using the power of your conscious mind! That means that you can change those habits that do not fuel your creativity/happiness/wellbeing/productivity etc… and build new habits that do! Excellent!
Ok thats great, but how do I use the power of my conscious mind?
This is the fun part! Simply sit down in a quiet moment with a piece of paper or journal and ask yourself one amazing question:
What would the most amazing version of myself do on a daily/weekly basis?
That’s it! Answer that question over and over until you are clear on all the habits your most awesome self would engage in. These are your Superhero Habits! Write them down!
In my experience it helps to order your Superhero Habits in order of importance, then choose the most important one to act on first. Trying to implement six new modes of behaviour all at once is a short-cut to certain failure! As I mentioned earlier, your subconscious mind is stubborn, and will resist any new behaviour, so be kind to yourself and understand that you might not get your new habit set in stone the first time around. You are literally installing a new program into your subconscious that will soon override your old behaviour. Amazing!
The most important take-away here is the PROCESS of questioning those habits that you have inherited simply through engaging with your environment! However, this is just the beginning, taking action on those habits is the next step, so next week I will be talking about implementation! It takes time and effort to rewrite your habitual patterns, but when you do, you get to enjoy them on a daily basis without effort. Your Superhero Habits will become subconscious!
CALL TO ACTION – Sometime within the next 7 days create a preliminary list of Superhero Habits and share them to The Simple Life Blog Facebook page (link here). Lets help each other become the best version of ourselves!
FYI, these are some of my ‘work-in-progress’ Superhero Habits below. Use these for inspiration when you are writing down your own!
