“If you struggle to appreciate and be content with all of the things you currently own/have in your life, what makes you think that having more things in the future, will magically allow you to appreciate and be content/happy then?”
All accumulation outside of basic survival and servicing passionate activity, is an attempt at filling an empty void. A void that takes the identity of happiness. This void is an illusion. A black hole that can never be filled. Happiness is not some phenomenon that comes with reaching a certain number of acquisitions or successes. It is achieved here and now through a genuine gratitude and appreciation for life. It is built through self-discovery, and maintained through integrity.
Sure, we are conditioned as consumers, bred into a cycle of chasing happiness and security through stuff.
Don’t be fooled. The next iPhone or fashion trend will not bring lasting happiness. There will always be something new to set your sights on. It is inherent in our nature to desire more. I suggest that instead of chasing true happiness through achieving or acquiring more, that we choose to learn, grow our unique gifts, build relationships, practice gratitude and experience the wonder of our world. Much more than we do now.
Indulge in the creation of your soul, not in the creation of your stuff.
Stop chasing. Start Living. Experience true happiness.
