Just recently my partner and I went away for the weekend to a little town called Creswick. It is a little forestry town about an hour out of Melbourne. There is forest and history everywhere. The town is small with a couple of cafe’s and old pubs.
We took the opportunity for a little forest hike that took about 2 hours on the Saturday, enjoying a sun bath as we walked. On the way back to our car, we decided to walk barefoot. There is something extremely calming about having your feet touching the cold earth. It provides almost immediate stress relief and reminds your soul of your original source.
I heard an idea (or maybe its fact, I can’t remember), that when you connect your feet to the ground, all of your stuck and stressful energy is discharged through the earth. Much like an electrical circuit. It immediately re-balances the energy system in your body, leaving you revitalised and stress free. I love this idea, and felt these effects immediately whilst on our hike. I think there is great healing power in nature, and this is a great practice to try on a day to day basis. I used to do a lot of barefoot walking in the summer evenings, and is something that I now aim to do much more consistently.
Even if it is as simple as taking your shoes off and just strolling in your front and back yard after work, I think this practice provides a great amount of clarity and stress relief. So go and get grounded and take those shoes off. Let me know who it goes for you 🙂
