Simple or Easy………….whats the difference? Are they the same? I don’t think so. Here’s why.
Taking an easy route can be a lot different to taking a simple route. Lets look at health as an example:
The Easy way may be to eat packaged or fast food for lunch at work, buy your coffee, maybe buy your dinner, continuously eat packaged snacks, and whenever you have enough time, cook something.
Easy usually works hand in hand with destructive habits that are time effective.
The Simple way may be to cook your meals the night before. Maybe a little cos lettuce salad, a can of tuna and a drizzle of olive oil. Or a chicken breast with some mashed potato. Simple food. Low preparation time. It may be that you take a minute to grab a couple pieces of fruit or some nuts before you head out on the weekend so you are prepared when you get hungry. Simple living is not about choosing convenience, it is about being intentional about the things you do. It is not extravagant, but it is designed around simple rules.
Using minimalism as an example, it is extremely simple to only own a handful of things that add the most value to you. But it is not easy. Easy is impulse buying with no thought to your finances, then storing it in your over-flowing garage to never think about again. It is simple to not spend your money on things you don’t need, but it is easy to give in to your impulses.
A simplistic frame of mind indicates that you have thought deeply about why you are doing what you are doing. It is in a lot of ways, much harder to live simply as it takes a lot of practiced discipline. This world throws so many temptations our way, and it becomes up to us whether we take the easy approach (giving in), or take the simple approach (stay strong and live with what we need). The less we give in, the less stress we have, the less stuff we accumulate, the less debt we have, the less we have to think and worry about.
Life becomes simple, not easy.
