“Your mind is like a parachute. It only works if it’s open.”
So you may assume that thinking is something that we all do naturally and automatically, (which wouldn’t be a bad assumption) however what I am suggesting is a method of purposeful thinking. Automatic thoughts are the exact same mindless activity 90% of the time, with no purpose or positive energy. Learning to consciously think, challenge accepted paradigms and engage in original thinking is where the real skill lies.
Everything in life happens first in thought. All of our current circumstances are a result of past thinking. Even tasks as simple as getting dressed in the morning, get thought about first, then actioned. So thoughts are your freedom or your vice. They cause growth or stagnation. If you have barriers in your thoughts, then you have barriers in your life. On the contrary, if you can free your thoughts and learn to consciously take control, then your outer world will begin to expand with opportunity.
Think of a time when you had an “Ah ha” moment. What is the most exciting and freeing part of the “Ah ha” or “Epiphany? Its that your thought patterns changed. You adopted a stream of thought that you had previously never considered.
So it makes sense to watch how and what you think. For me, I have slowly been trying to perfect the art of conscious thinking for about 3 years. It all started when I learned about how to live in the present moment. From there, I have read a large array of books and articles on the subject of thinking and how it effects your life. This has lead to many many paradigm shifts over the years. I am constantly watching that my thinking never goes into a negative space, and that I am always re-directing the few negative thoughts back into positive ones.
This means that for the most part, my mind is cultured to be positive, express gratitude and be more open to originality. I consistently read books that challenge or add to my current thinking. This ensures that there is always new thoughts being generated, and a much higher chance that I will reach higher streams of consciousness. On top of feeding my mind fresh material, I take a lot of time to purposely think of how I would like my future years to unfold. This has helped place me on an interesting journey that only becomes closer and closer to my ideal vision everyday.
So in short, learning to feed your mind in a way that leads to original thoughts, can benefit your life in many ways. Make sure you are always thinking and challenging your mind, otherwise your thought patterns will just be the exact same day in and day out, leading you towards all that you already do and know. You can’t achieve what you don’t think about.
Learn to think, and grow.
