Knowing where you want to go is useless without consistent action.
So you have written down your new Superhero Habits! Perfect! If you haven’t written down your superhero habits head back to the first post of this month here, and get that s**t down! Done that? You may proceed…
Writing down those habits that your ‘highest self’ would do (or not do) creates momentum in your life. But don’t be fooled, this is just preliminary momentum. Nothing life changing has happened yet. This is the time to sharpen your sword and TAKE ACTION…enter the Habit Ninja!
Reece…come on. Habit Ninja?
Absolutely! Ninja’s embody discipline, balance, awareness, precision, patience, wisdom, commitment, humility, and most importantly, they are lethal. As newly endowed Habit Ninjas, we have the platform to attack our new Superhero Habits while being grounded in these principles and more! What an opportunity!
So how do we begin to take action on our new habits?
Firstly, GET EXCITED and TAKE ACTION. For added clarity, first rank your superhero habits in order of importance to you. Then systematically introduce one at a time. This is super important! Trying to implement more than one new behaviour at a time will monumentally increase the difficulty of sticking to your new habit.
Secondly, be patient. Be really patient! Appreciate the challenge of re-writing your habitual behaviours, relax, and be kind to yourself when failure interrupts the progress. We are all human after-all.
Thirdly, set small goals. See if you can get through just one week (or one day!) of acting on your new habit (track your progress on a calendar or phone app for visual feedback and positive vibes). Setting small goals will allow you to feel like you have achieved something, and will continue motivating you! Having BIG goals can often facilitate dis-empowerment, as they can seem impossible to achieve from where you stand today.
Fourthly, be a VISIONARY of your own life. Remember that the whole point of being an awesome Habit Ninja is to be a better version of you. The best version of you is a vision. The ideal you that you want to bring to the world! Your vision should make you giddy inside, and be the ultimate driver of your actions. If it doesn’t feel amazing to visualise the best you, unfortunately none of the above will be fun for you, and it would be worthwhile heading back to the drawing board!
(*REMEMBER* Appreciate that your vision is a moving target, the means that keep you motivated to be better, not a static end).
If you are trying, you are making progress towards a better version of you. That is all that matters. Be consistent, and don’t get put off by failure or other people not understanding. Have fun with it! Being a better human being today than you were yesterday is incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. Let’s not take ourselves so seriously and just be awesome!
