Living with intention and simplicity through fostering habits that invigorate the soul is no less important than any other meaningful endeavor in this wonderful life. Just remember to do it under pressure.

When life interferes with our superhero habits.
So we are all habit ninjas. Epic! But what happens when life inevitably throws you a gajillion curve balls all at the same time?? I know I can struggle to keep my superhero habits in-tact. And that can spell trouble. Our superhero habits keep us aligned with our most awesome selves, and when they start to break down under pressure and stress, we become less awesome. And that sucks for everyone. You don’t want to be that negative person pouring out negative energy just because your stressed and missed your morning meditation. Not cool! So how do we deal with those times that make you pull your hair out?
How to stick to your habits in times of stress.
Suggestions? I have two. Hopefully they provide value to you.
- Protect your habits at all costs
Schedule time into your day to complete those habits you know you need to do to stay productive and present, even when it feels like you already have too much to do.In times of stress I journal with my morning coffee after a 10-12 minute meditation. This habit alone keeps me ready for battle and charges me up when life is super challenging. The other habit that keeps me calm and present in stressful times is going to the gym. Staying physically active is the bedrock of my personal mental, spiritual and physical wellbeing (Check out my keystone habit post for a more in depth look at exercise as my personal keystone habit). Protecting these habits at all costs is imperative for the best version of me to attack each day.** Take-away: protect your life giving superhero habits (whatever they may be) like Batman protects Gotham. Be Disciplined and crush. Next!
- Mental minimalism
Don’t listen to your frantic brain. Most thoughts are garbage. When you are particularly stressed and under pressure, your thoughts can be just plain toxic. Tune-in at your own peril. Ignoring most of my thoughts is a habit I am constantly practicing. [For more info on mental minimalism, stay tuned for my Mindfulness themed series of posts due to come out in March :)]For now though, stay grounded in the present and be a habit ninja instead. Done!
Before you go.
To conclude, I do not master these things on a daily basis. Being the most awesome version of yourself is a daily practice, and sometimes I suck at it! So…it is important to be kind to yourself. If you miss a day or two, or a week or ten, just remember that you are practicing! Baby’s don’t quit trying to walk after falling down a thousand times. Channel your inner baby #babysdontquit. We always get better over time. Accepting and thriving in stressful times is the hallmark of a successful human. Keep at it and be a habit ninja under pressure! Yes!
